Rowan's First Bike Trip! Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail

Nat and I loaded up the Pathfinder with as much biking and camping gear as we could fit to head down to the Sakatah Lake Singing Hills State Park. There is a 40 mile long bike trail that runs through park connecting some rural towns in southern Minnesota. The lake and trail was beautiful and the the forest was too, but the mosquitoes were TERRIBLE! Swarms so thick that we couldn't be outside unless we were moving on a bike. Good thing we packed the mosquito-free box net!
The week before, we had purchased a fancy Burley D'lite Trailer with suspension to give little ones growing body an easier ride. Word had it that it had shown up at the bike shop that morning. By the time we picked it up and got everything together, it was after lunch time, so we hit the road and unpacked as soon as we got there. Anwen rode on her trail-a-bike and Rowan in the trailer for a couple hours of exploring the trail before dinner. They had a blast but it was so late that we doubled back, cooked and ate, and went right to bed.
The next day was a blast. After b-fast we hit the trail hard. Only stopping for a quick snack (re: mosquitoes) we enjoyed the scenery and excersize and made it to Elysian for lunch. after a little dip in the lake, we pedaled a few more miles before heading back to make dinner, trying to avoid another late night. Stopping only at BW's Bike Shop for a rest (they are super nice folks! check out their shop) we made it back and Nat and I were so beat from carrying the kids that we had to hit the showers and call it a night. Besides, we had to be up at 7 am so Nat could get to work by 9! (we made it on time...)
